RCSA Innovation’s track and field team hit the ground running.
Formed in January, most of the team had more enthusiasm than experience in track and field. But at the March 8 meet, RCSA girls finished 5th overall out of 19 teams and the boys finished 7th overall.
The team was invited to the North Florida Championship meet April 14, 2018 at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, showing the talent and progress of this new team.
The team was founded by Coach Edwards in January with a group of 45 students. No students were turned away. They began practicing immediately, meeting three days each week and one Saturday per month with mentors from Atlantic Coast High School.
So far, the team has competed in 4 meets and events including the 100 and 200-meter dash, 400-meter, 1600-meter, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus. RCSA students squared off against competitors in 6th through 12th grade.
Several students broke away from the pack as some of the fastest in the county, and one student is even being recruited by high school teams. The students have grown at each practice, working hard to achieve more.
