On Tuesday, April 16th, students from River City Science Academy traveled to Tallahassee where they spent the day at the State Capitol.
RCSA was the only organization from the Jacksonville area to visit the capitol for STEM Day, a day meant to celebrate Florida’s future of technology and innovation. Students were able to share with lawmakers and other officials about the work that they are doing at their school in STEM fields. They brought their robots, award-winning competitive science projects, and more!
Many local representatives visited with the RCSA students and learned a little bit more about the STEM education efforts that are occurring locally. Students visited with Senators Aaron Bean and Audrey Gibson. They also got to visit with Representatives Clay Yarborough, Tracie Davis, Kimberly Daniels, and Travis Cummings. Senator Aaron Bean even took our students to the Senate chambers where they got to see an example of democracy in action!
This was a great opportunity to showcase their passion and knowledge in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with Florida legislators, while demonstrating the advantages that STEM programming can have on economic development across the state.
